KALI YUGA ROCKS ON!
1. NUIT, 1999.
According to the Gnostic Pagan Tradition, the Kali Yuga, or Age of Universal (Old Aeon) Destruction, began its biological manifestation in 1912 with the beginning of World War I, signaled by the capitulation of Social Democracy to imperialist/nationalist aggression. These destructive forces continued their cultural erosion, reaching a peak with the horrors of World War II, and culminating in 1945 with the (U.S.) unleashing of the atomic bomb against Japan, thus ending the overt World War. The late 40's thru the 70's marked the period of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union, despite its historically progressive socialized property forms and tremendous modernization from its socially backward, czarist roots--was hindered almost from the onset by a greedy, bureaucratic elite (Stalinists) who claimed true socialism was possible to achieve in a single, semi-industrialized country. The Stalinists also morally disarmed the people by projecting the utopian myth of the possibility for "peaceful co-existence" between socialism and capitalism.
The Cold War represented a temporary, relatively passive phase of Kali Yuga.
Notable exceptions were the U.S.-Korean and U.S.-Vietnam wars, as well as the social revolution and Maoist upheavals in Communist China.
However, as we approach the Mayan prophetic date of 23. Vesta (December) 2012, the world is experiencing an even more pervasive application of destructive karma resulting from the ascendancy of ultra-nationalism and corporate capitalism. This scenario is made even more potentially dangerous by an unprecedented exploding population of raw souls, surrounded by the incessant materialistic demands prevalent in the technologically advanced nations--or the demeaning pressure placed on the poor by the constant, daily struggle for survival in the "developing" countries.
The demand for CONFORMITY is again being raised by "democratic", wannabe dictators. The lingering memory of the gnosis-expansion and mass political movements of the 60's and 70's drives the conservative reactionaries crazy. They long to drag society back to their stifling vision of The Garden of Eden under the thumb of a rather nasty, control-freak Jehovah and his repressive human agents.
Indeed, there is no political solution divorced or separate from Spiritual Illumination.
The unfolding story of cultural debasement and reaction will have to play itself out. Those who possess the spiritual sense and sensibility to be horrified by the cultural corruption of humanity must continue to remain strong and intact as Spiritual Warriors and Co-Workers in the Divine Plan (Great Work) of the New Aeon--even as others lose themselves in the ever-increasing frantic grabs for material wealth, and survivalist fears of an impending Armageddon.
On the most mundane level, the corporate puppet-masters are gearing up the consumer masses for a titanic financial and emotional investment in the "New Millennium" celebrations of 2000 (or 2001). These projected dates are both historically and metaphysically inaccurate as pertaining to "the Shift." (Fundamentalist churches, knowing there will be no "Rapture," have replaced that particular neurosis with Y2K paranoia, offering all kinds of survivalist "kits" and "workshops" in order to hook another generation into their flawed version of reality, and designed to rake in more loot for "The Lord.") Unfortunately, said consumer masses are easily manipulated and conditioned by superficial "teachings" and phony "anniversaries", often allowing themselves to spend money they can't afford and to get jacked-up by nothing at all.
Gnostic Pagan Celebrants--whose task it is to Humanize, Vitalize and Sanctify biological reality in conjunction with our understanding of the New Aeon--only give a very limited acknowledgement to the "New Millennium" hullabaloo and propaganda; choosing instead to focus on a Gnostic Humanist interpretation of the Divine Mythos.

Gnosticism has always represented a threat to Establishment status-quo, and we should not delude ourselves into thinking that society has really changed that much since the Council of Nicaea (325 C.E), the Burning Times (Inquisition & witchcraft hysteria); the days of Hitler, Stalin and Mao's anti-individualist, so-called "Cultural revolution; the anti-Left, anti- Progressive, anti-Liberal McCarthy Period of the 1950's--or the current "Just Say No-to-Everything," Neo-Conformist era.
The urge to conformity for the sake of profit is no less insidious today as it was 2 thousand years ago.
Be that as it may, we do not advocate retreating from society or engaging in potentially self-destructive, individual proselytizing, or pointless acts of frustration. On the contrary, the Gnostic Pagan Tradition ENCOURAGES social interaction, even if that means the need to conceal association with our New Aeon Philosophy
The human world is sinking into an ever-increasing mode of terror and destruction of self-abuse, animal abuse and environmental abuse. The Holy Mother (Isis) is outraged (occasionally expressed in garbled "Marian" visions) by the cruelty of humanity; just as Our Inner Self and Divine Brother Horus, the Conquering Savior (Christ) of the World, metaphorically avenges profanity against the Earth and all Her Spiritual Inhabitants (including non-human animals). In this aspect his Ikon (spiritual image) is that of an "Archangel" wielding the flaming sword of Ma'at (Cosmic Law and Justice.) He conquers from within, leaving the necessary Karmic Adjustments on the outer, physical planes for mortals to resolve for themselves.

We find ourselves in an extremely contradictory relationship vis-à-vis the United States. A compelling argument might be made that our tradition could not so successfully manifest (re-incarnate) as it has without the material and social opportunities existing in the U.S. today. In fact, we do not dispute the probable truth in such an assertion--and advance the following propositions: (1) The phenomenal material (and, in consequence, political) success of the United States is based on the "New World" abundance of natural resources exploited by European pillagers and dissidents. (2) This unprecedented material development was achieved primarily by a highly motivated and socially conditioned working class, which, in turn, was exploited by a cunning, often vicious capitalist elite; and was also achieved at the expense and genocide of indigenous populations. (3) While acknowledging all of the above, U.S. Gnostic Pagans: (A) support worker's rights and such elemental labor movement principles as, for example, not crossing picket lines; as well as support for racial/sexual equality; and (B) demonstrate love of country by caring for the land and its inhabitants--and by expressing a New Aeon Tradition celebrating the Divinity of the Human Spirit.

The Kali Yuga has entered a concentrated, accelerated stage symbolized by the break-up of the Soviet Union and the seemingly undefeatable consolidation of neo-conformist, anti-humanist corporate capitalism. On one hand, the population believes less and less in the false promises of old aeon politics and religion; but on the other hand, their distrust is channeled into a bitter, self-destructive and greedy passive-aggression that threatens to pull the whole world into the Abyss with them.
Self-destruction, Cruelty and Greed ARE the Kali Yuga.

Just as it was incumbent upon the Old Aeon Secret Societies to preserve at almost any cost the records and histories of human scientific learning and achievement, so the Gnostic Pagan Collective preserves and promotes the highest achievements and ideals of human spiritual culture.
This ultimate goal is just about as POSITIVE as you can get.
We realize the failures of attempts at socialism tied to a single, authoritarian political party with a mechanistic version of materialism enforced by "proletarian" thought police. We also see the corrosive cultural pit corporate capitalism is creating for the world--and before the uninitiated accuse us of the great modern sin of "divisiveness" or (worse yet) "ultra-leftist"--let us remind readers that we equate Horus-as-Christ, and have a very literal interpretation regarding Christ's chasing the money-lenders (and we're NOT talking about small businesses or pawnshops) from the temple. The Temple is the Human Spirit and the money-lenders are those who have the ignorant affronter to attempt to sell that Spirit for 30 pieces of silver. The darkness of exploitation (Satan) must be conquered on Earth before the Collective Race can truly advance any further. [The garbage should be cleaned up here on the home planet before mortals plan to "colonize" (i.e. "trash") other planets with unresolved hang-ups and waste. Can you imagine ANY truly advanced, civilized Cosmic Race debating the pros and cons of socialized health care or cigarette ads??! Maury Scoops BIG at Digs!
TV tabloid journalist/talk show host, Maury Povich, scored on his "Live from the Great Pyramid" show that aired the first week in Ostara, 1999.
Working in association with Giza Plateau Director, Dr. Zihi Hawas, a number of very interesting "finds" were uncovered halfway through the program, including the remains of an ancient monument worker and the mummy of a queen. At this point the show was already more exciting and historically relevant than Geraldo Rivera's ill-fated "Live Opening of Al Capone's Secret Vault."--in which only a broken beer bottle was found (amidst a deluge of commercial interruptions).
In the course of the Pyramid broadcast a number of related segments were presented, including the various theories regarding Ancient Egyptian mythology as applied to monument building. Not only were these related segments well produced and informative, they also presented a BALANCED, rational approach to the many often controversial theories and speculations centered on the spiritual culture of Egypt. We have grown weary of silly, biased, "ancient mystery" programs that reflect only the most outlandish speculations (usually involving gross superstition, flying saucers, abduction, etc.) with no attempt made at scientific analysis. For example, a recent program presented as "fact" the whimsical theory that the image of the Ka (astral body) depicted on tombs and temples (an image of a bird with a human head) is, in fact, an actual transmutation of two species created with Atlantean technology!!!
The Povich broadcast did not rely on phony gimmicks in order to hold the interest of avid Ancient Egyptian devotees and analytical thinkers such as Gnostic Pagans...and that is saying a lot!
Of paramount importance to us, was a "discovery" made at the conclusion of the program. A subterranean vault was uncovered and a startling find revealed. Dr. Hawas translated hieroglyphics on the walls of the vault purporting to state that the site was the ACTUAL TOMB OF OSIRIS!
In the center of the vault was an appx. 9-foot long, enclosed (and empty) sarcophagus. The plain, black granite tomb was surrounded by a water-filled circle, or moat, divided into quarters by narrow strips of land leading to 4 pillars flanking the sarcophagus (and possibly reflecting the Gnostic Pagan 4 Powers of Manifestation).
There was a real sense of awe experienced in relation to this site. It is not impossible that it MAY BE THE MYTHOLOGICAL CENTER OF ANCIENT EGYPT.
We were also impressed by Dr. Hawas' rather passionate insistence on respect for funeral sites and human remains. For too long have ancient cultures been pillaged and plundered by disrespectful grave-robbers (both with and without university degrees). For example, in the 17th-19th centuries mummies were ground up for their alleged "curative" properties, and were even used as fuel for locomotives, and processed into writing paper, as noted by the great American writer Mark Twain (1835-1910, b. Samuel Longhorn Clemens).
The sense of reverence conveyed by Dr. Haawas was a welcome sign of spiritual awareness (gnosis), enhancing an already fascinating and enlightening program.

25. OSTRA (March) 1999.
The United States and its NATO allies launched an illegal attack on the sovereign State of Yugoslavia, proving once again that the U.S. war machine is a terrorist organization without comparison. According to the State-servile Washington Post, "Manned aircraft followed an opening salvo of cruise missiles launched from B-52 bombers, two U.S. warships, one U.S. submarine and the British submarine HMS Splendid. Two B-2 stealth bombers also made their combat debuts, each dropping about 16 2,000-pound satellite-guided bombs..."
Pentagon officials, delighted at the prospect of utilizing their new high tech. toys in a protracted conflict, gleefully crowed how "excited" they were at "the opportunity" to test their weapons of mass destruction; and sneered at the Russians for their traditional sense of Slavic unity with the Serbs.
A criminally complicit CNN even had the audacity to suggest that the Serbians themselves in reality staged the monumental destruction wreaked on Kosovo and other parts of Yugoslavia by NATO forces. This BS rivals any propaganda put out by the Nazis, and tops even the nightmares of George Orwell's 1984.
We are very circumspect in using labels such as "fascist" to characterize the United States Government. The U.S. may be in a pre-fascist political mode, but fundamentally remains a bourgeois democracy socially conditioned by a greedy corporate capitalist elite. However, we do unhesitatingly declare President Clinton, Secretary of Defense Cohen and Secretary of State Albright to be war criminals who should be put on trial along with Saddam Hussein and Slobadan Milosevic.
For a moment imagine these people as Evil Magicians and the truth of their inner core becomes nakedly self-evident.
They are very real, determined and--DANGEROUS!
[Gnostics Pagans are reminded that when criticizing others--no matter how objectively justified--we are criticizing dysfunctional and destructive aspects of our Collective Self. Be that as it may, we are also reminded of Krishna's advice to Arjuna in Bhagavad-Gita when confronted by mortal warlike monsters--sometimes it is necessary to fight the reactionary, destructive fire of deceit and illusion, with the liberating, New Aeon Fire of Spirit.]
Meanwhile, the traumatized Albanians--who have been horrifically persecuted by rightist Yugoslavian forces and politically manipulated just like the Kurds by the Western imperialist powers--will have nothing but rubble and incensed Serb hostility to go back to after NATO has finished destroying Yugoslavia--and when the propaganda honeymoon is over. [NOTE: 7/99. As it has turned our thus far, it is now the Serbs who are being victimized by Albanians under the auspices of NATO "protection." This is exactly why the Warsaw Pact was necessary for stability in the region.]
Who will be next? Russia because capitalist restoration isn't going exactly as Washington wants it to?

Just because the U.S. masses are too conditioned to see where their government is leading them and the rest of the world--doesn't also mean that true SPIRITUAL INDIVIDUALISTS should remain silent in face of the greatest terrorist organization ever seen on earth. Washington (the New Imperialist Rome) is a spiritually decrepit, political mafia.
They don't call the U.S. Government (particularly its Washington persona) the Great Satan for nothing!
What's even more revolting than the illegal policies of the Clinton Administration--are those conservative politicians who denounce the insane war policy (just because they hate Clinton because he's a Democrat and an "upstart" Cracker with amorous links to "trailer trash"), yet who insist that "good Americans" should support the President and soldiers because "our boys" have been put in "harm's way." And who put them there? The President, the complacent, compliant politicians--and "the boys" themselves, who for whatever reasons (financial, patriotic, emotional disturbance, whatever), have on their own responsibility opted to serve as forces of destruction for the New World Disorder.
If anyone should be supported, it's the people being bombed--not the bombers!

This is just the beginning of another U.S. sponsored Reign of Terror. The American elite doesn't seem to have the mental capacity for resolving conflicts--be they domestic or international--without the use of brute force--i.e. a police force armed to the teeth against its own population, and Pentatagon thugs primed to kill.
U.S. politicians and their Corporate Directors are certainly noteworthy for their outstanding LACK of moral values.
The excuse for the bombing THIS TIME is that President Milosevic of Yugoslavia refused to endorse the ridiculous, U.S. dictated Treaty of Rambouillet, France.
This "treaty" was a farce and a blatant set-up of the Serbs. Its terms demanded a virtual surrender of Yugoslav sovereignty. Of course the (at least partially terrorist-linked) KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) signed the absurd treaty--they were easily being defeated on what they claimed was their own turf-- and had nothing to lose!
This crisis situation is both serious and complex, dating back centuries, and indicates why the Balkans was called "the powder keg" for World War I (the beginning of the Kali Yuga).
Kosovo achieved a high degree of autonomy in 1974 under the Communist Tito regime. However, as the old aeon Soviet system weakened, economic hardships in Yugoslavia escalated ethnic and political tensions. Tito (who had both a Serbian and a Croatian parent) died in 1980, and the slender thread that kept Yugoslavia together as a more-or-less non-aligned Communist nation began to fall apart. Albanian separatist rioting took place in Kosovo as early as 1981. More recently, Macedonia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina (with marked brutality and crimes against humanity committed by ALL SIDES) seceded from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
Montenegro remains as an autonomous component in the State of Yugoslavia (ostensibly the same political status as Kosovo).
During the Bosnia conflict we denounced Milosovic as a war criminal.
More recently the KLA began a campaign of terrorist bombings primarily directed against Yugoslavian authority in Kosovo--and this laid the groundwork for the current crisis. Right-wing Serbian forces counter-attacked with an all too familiar campaign of "ethnic cleansing." So now NATO, in an Alice-in-Wonderland type response, has decided, (without even bothering to consult the impotent U.N.), to come in and WIPE OUT EVERYBODY!
The political disintegration of Yugoslavia represents a step BACKWARDS in terms of economic and social evolution.
The U.S. and NATO action clearly says to the world: Do what we say or FUCK YOU!
New Aeon Celebrants can no longer either actively or passively accept this type of idiotic, destructive global “leadership”.
[NOTE: As an interesting metaphysical anecdote, during World War II, Aleister Crowley quite astutely observed that the Allied "V" for victory gesture (particularly its 3-fingered Continental European variant), is actually the Sign of the Goat (or The Devil). By noting this Crowley was not indicating support of any kind to the Axis Powers; rather, he was stressing the Universal Destructive (Kali Yuga) essence of ALL factions--after all, the Nazi swastika was an inverted occult symbol as well-- engaged in such devastatingly total conflict, with old aeon economics and territorial greed as its basis.]

Denounces Milosevic
In Belated Attempt to Save Face

Today the Orthodox Serbian Church condemned war criminal Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic and demanded that he and his entire cabinet resign. This cynical act was prompted, not by any sincere moral repugnance (after all, it was obvious that Milosevic sanctioned mass murder during the Bosnia "conflict"); instead, the belated denunciation by the Church was a public relations reaction to the Yugoslav war disaster (orchestrated by the USA and NATO)--and the failure of Russia to provide any meaningful military support.
The intensely reactionary and patriarchal hierarchy of the Orthodox Church will no doubt claim in hindsight that they withheld its true position out of a sense of patriotism while NATO was bombing the shit out of "their" country. The truth is, the Orthodox leaders are not stupid--and they definitely know which way the international winds are blowing. Yugoslavia's not Iraq, and getting rid of Milosevic will be an easier task than ousting Saddam Hussein. The Church--as always--wants to be on the winning side--not necessarily the right side.
Old Aeon Religion and nationalist reaction have always gone hand-in-hand.
They are consistently destructive.
If the Serbian Orthodox Church--or the Roman Catholic Church, for that matter--had been so concerned by Milosevic and "ethnic cleansing"--then it should have taken decisive action several years ago, using its enormous social and political influence to oust the war criminal. Instead the Church remained typically silent in the face of genocide, and consequently is greatly responsible for giving the U.S. and NATO the fig leaf of moral imperative to launch an equally criminal attack on Yugoslavia.
The entire Yugoslavian catastrophe illustrates the insidious nature of Old Aeon politics and religion and the New World Disorder. In recent history the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches have been bastions of ethnic and anti-Semitic reaction--from Czarist pogroms in Russia to Nazi collaboration in Poland, Italy and the Balkans--these State Institutions have kept masses of the people tied to the most enslaving ideologies.
The Communists made use of this fact in their propaganda efforts--then proved their own reactionary inclinations by elevating themselves to the status of Supreme Authority, perpetrating intellectual fraud and malice.
We believe that people can always fundamentally change, grow and evolve into a liberating alignment with the Aeon of the Child; however, that does not mean that we should stand idly by while those who remain trapped in ignorance and illusion victimize the world.

Iranian students--both male and female--poured into the streets of Tehran in response to Security Forces raiding University dormitories in a violent attempt to stamp-out a growing pro-democracy movement in the Fundamentalist. The courageous students have so far raised only the most modest of demands in an effort to loosen the grip of Fundamentalist Islamic reaction. The supposedly "moderate" Government appears to be somewhat wavering, although is definitely leaning more towards the reactionary forces. We call on workers to join the students in raising democratic, socialist demands.

Department of "Justice" & FBI Lied...
WACO TAPES EXPOSE COVER-UP!
Video and audio tapes uncovered in the FBI's own files reveal that the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation lied 6 years ago regarding the FBI role in the fire that destroyed the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. Attorney Janet Reno repeated the lie to a Congressional investigation (white-wash)--now she claims to be hopping mad that she was misled by her own agents. To this double absurdity WE say--HOG WASH!
Attorney/investigator David Hardy, acting for one of the Waco survivors, declared on CNN's "Burden of Proof" that he obtained the tapes with a court order--only to find 4 hours of the tape missing and the audio removed. Shades of Watergate and surprise, surprise!
The tapes are purported to show that the FBI (despite consistent denials to the contrary), did in fact launch incendiary devices into the religious compound--which may or may not have contributed to, or even caused--the fire that destroyed scores of men, women and children. Considering the fact that Reno kept repeating that the raid was being staged to prevent "child abuse," this revelation is particularly embarrassing to Reno and, indeed, to the entire scandal-ridden Clinton Administration. Now yet another Establishment Special Prosecutor is being sought to investigate the Capitalist Regime's own deceit. Who knows how many more millions of public funds will be wasted on yet ANOTHER COVER-UP?
The Branch Davidians, led by megalomaniac David Koresh, was a splinter Fundamentalist sect that, out of real fears and paranoia, armed itself like a born-again Commando Squad, bringing down the wrath of the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms) wing of the Justice Department. A subsequent bungled ATF raid--resulting in fatalities on both sides--lead to the ultimate stand-off and the burning or shooting deaths of most of the Branch Davidian members--AND ALL OF THE CHILDREN WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN SAVED! This was reminiscent of the bombing of the M.O.V.E. headquarters--a black separatist group--in Philadelphia, murdering even more innocent children. (Black Journalist and M.O.V.E. supporter, Mumia Abu-Jamal, is on death row possibly as a result of on-going State persecution of the group.)
The Branch Davidians were a misguided, old aeon (Jehovian) sect, but they did have religious rights under the Constitution--after all, being armed in America is almost considered a necessity--and other means could have been used to achieve a non-violent conclusion to the stand-off. We are in no way justifying the violent inclinations of the group--most Jehovian groups are based on justifying violence--but we defend the religious freedom of expression of people we don't necessarily agree with (provided they refrain from advocating fascistic, racist policies).
FBI apologists are calling the debacle an "administrative blunder." Some blunder! Actually it is part and parcel of the violence associated with The New Rome (Washington) and the Clinton Administration's unwitting unraveling of the Democratic-Republican phony political shell game (where attention is misdirected by the 2-party capitalist system).
It is yet another indicator of The New Aeon's dissolution of old aeon forms...

2. Pomona (September) 1999.
It is being bandied about that certain members of Britain's Royal Family are "hinting" that the Royal Kids be DNA tested to authenticate their legitimacy! Except for the scientific aspects, this grotesque suggestion is like something from the Court of Henry VIII, a feudal reminder of--we would hope--less enlightened times.
The obsession with the Royal Family reached a fevered pitch with the unfortunate death of Diana, the Princess of Wales--but at least the interest in Diana is understandable, considering the fact that the public saw this woman spiritually evolve before their eyes. But enough is enough. The Monarchy is a rather pointless institution, possibly useful only for its tourist value--and whether it survives or not is of little importance. "The Firm" has a bad karmic history--may even be in some way, "cursed." It should be legally abolished along with the House of Lords.
The bloated wealth of "The Windsor’s" (hastily renamed from its Germanic ancestry during World War I) should also be redistributed to educational and environmental improvement.
OK...so leave them a couple of mil' and a few townhouses for old time's sake.

No Military Support to Capitalist Restorantionist Russia...
RUSSIA OUT OF CHECHNYA!
Capitalist Russia continues its barbaric assault on the breakaway Republic of Chechnya, and, in a calculated anti-Western move, is seeking (and receiving) political support from the bureaucratically deformed "socialist" State of China...
The reactionary Russian Government, in a base attempt to shore up its lack of support at home, launched the criminal attack on the Islamic country under that tread-worn justification of "domestic terrorism." While it is probably true that Islamic Fundamentalist forces partially based in Chechnya have been responsible for bombings in Russia--this supposition provides no excuse for the equally reactionary Russian Government to carry out its merciless destruction of an entire people.
Apparently the Russian populace so far supports the war effort, proving their complete renunciation of socialist principles in this context. They have allowed their country to kowtow to Big Brother Capitalism, then, realizing their nation has degenerated into second or third-rate status, they displace their anger to empower a ruthless military campaign on an even more desperate neighbor...
The Russian offensive was largely inspired by the easy "success" of the NATO campaign against Yugoslavia--proving once again how interconnected is the web of violence sponsored by Old Aeon Nations. Russia was too cowardly to offer any meaningful military support to their underdog "Slavic brothers" in Yugoslavia--and as a consequence of discontent at home over this submission to NATO; the sell-out Russian Bureaucracy has misdirected resentment to non-Slavic Chechnya.
The Russian guns would be better served aimed at the Kremlin!
The Russian people have been demoralized for three generations by the anti-socialist forces of Stalinist Communism, and more recently by the alienating effects of Corporate Capitalism. Until they rediscover their socialist revolutionary roots, they will be victims of their own "democracy." With the destruction of even the most minimal collectivist property forms, Russia is just another Old Aeon nation heading down the path of materialistic dissolution.
WTO PROTESTS EXPOSE SOCIAL TENSIONS
7. Vesta (December) 1999.
The much-touted Seattle meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) this week was met with the largest and most militant protest demonstrations last seen in the U.S. during the 1960's. Not only were the protestors loud and angry--they were also extraordinarily creative in their costumes, banners and even floats. It was heartening to see that social protest still exists in the capitalist, neo-conformist States.
The World Trade Organization has been around for some 50 years or so, but only recently has gained much public notice. The current talks were tentatively called the "Millennium Round" in order to reap the PR benefits of the "Year 2000" commercial hysteria. Apparently the organizers got more than they bargained for...
The WTO is a group of handpicked government officials from around the world whose economic discussions can be classified as Yawns Ville at best. But this year many social activists viewed this particular conference in its more manipulative aspects.
On the table were tariff reductions and greater access to world markets for "service providers" such as the mega-monopolistic telecommunications companies. While it is probable that the WTO meeting will result in mostly token concessions, the various economic issues involved revealed a wide spectrum of social dissent.
The protestors ranged from rank-and-file unionists, to environmental and animal rights defenders, to Right Anarchists (who, in conjunction with the police, instigated the unfortunate instances of senseless violence).
The unionists (as a reaction to fears of losing more jobs to foreign sweatshops) generally raised the nationalistic, anti-socialist demands so popular during the 80's era of Detroit "Jap-bashing." As New Aeon Socialists, we promote the concept of International Collectivism, a global, egalitarian economic system that will protect EVERYBODY'S job, and insure that it is a decent job and fairly compensated. We salute the unionists who turned out, but urge them to break away from the capitalist labor bosses, and to form a bonafide U.S. Labor Party with an international perspective.
As for the other demonstrators, they ranged from workers, students, professionals, artists, etc. with a scattering of the violence-prone, "lumpen" element who like to style themselves as "Anarchists." The first, and by far the largest group, displayed creativity and determination; as for the violence-for-violence sake jerks, they're no better than the rioting police with their tear gas, pepper spray, guns and nightsticks.
The most important thing the protests achieved was to signal to the world that not all is capitalist bliss in America--that there are still people who give a damn about the rights of those who have lost their rights--and who desire to positively and harmoniously transform the global economic system.
The destructive and alienating effects of Corporate Capitalism must be curbed by an intelligently militant refusal by the people of the earth to accept its lies and deforming effects on society. We are all in this together and must stand together as The Collective Race, and insist on the creation of a TRULY NEW WORLD ECONOMIC ORDER based on integrity, cultural respect, and co-operation.
Just SAY NO to Capitalist Neo-Conformity.

CNN Engages in Self-Congratulatory Orgy

CNN, the master U.S. capitalist media self-promoter, is pulling out all the stops in celebrating its egomaniacal 20th birthday. The global giant is airing ad nauseum snippets from its admittedly successful career, predictably focusing on the USA Cold War victory, and the historically tragic overturn of collectivist property forms in Russia and elsewhere. Nothing sells like success, and no other media (except ours?) is noting CNN's masturbatory excess.
CNN has forged its path recycling the same newscasters, journalists, lawyers and political pundits in constant repeat performances, packaged in the thinly veiled cast-offs of preceding programs. It's all the same line constantly regurgitated... Indeed, the capitalist, neo-conformist historic revisionism, presented on CNN raises propaganda to a new high (or low, depending on your point of view).
It's all very slick and expensive.
Anyone who thinks the recent merger of Time/Warner and CNN resulted in an impartial news organization would believe anything. Intellectually the United States is increasingly becoming one big company store.
Unfortunately, CNN has the Big $$$'s and does provide a certain cutting-edge technology that both englamorizes and entraps. In spite of this, we do not suggest that Gnostic Pagans blow up their television sets. We need to keep at least as well informed as the puppet masters...

Well, Bush and Gore have been nominated by their respective political Parties to run for President of the United States. Is anyone surprised? In fact, what was so unconventional about both the Republican and Democratic Conventions is that they completely lacked any element of suspense. In the past there was at least some token challenge to the front contenders on the Convention floor, but not this time around. Even during the various State Primaries there was very little debate on substantive issues. The most exciting and amusing moment came with the virtual implosion of the so-called "Reform" Party. This rotten block of malcontents formerly funded by screwball multi-millionaire Ross Perot was doomed from the outset. They truly deserve the likes of egomaniac Pat Buchanan...
The monopoly of State power remains firmly in the hands of the Democrats and Republicans. Their Tweedledum-Tweedledee act is looking more and more like a Soviet era, rubber-stamp Party Boss election. The only real difference is that a vast number of Americans still buy into this shell game…
