Guru
Di Mahima Varinder Bachchan (Artist)
![]()
I purchased this CD primarily because I noted
that it contained the song/mantra Guru Dev Mere featured on Krisna Das GREATEST
HITS OF THE KALI YUGA. In my review of GREATEST HITS I indicated how beauriful
that version was. So I was expecting mantra music in similiar vein. At the time
my web CD player wasn't working (and hardly does at the best of times), so I
ordered GURU DI MAHIMA purely on spec.
It wasn't what I was expecting--and turned out just fine.
The music is all upbeat & contemporary. Guru Dev Mere wasn't at all like
the Krisna Das one. I believe GURU DI MAHIMA is the type of music that follows
within the category of "contemporary, easy listening." You can
certainly dance to it. One track sounds distinctly calypso, another cajun, etc.
It's a great example of musical fusion. Traditional Hindu material updated for
contemporary tastes.
I have a special place for Mantra in my collection, and this CD doesn't go
there. I'm placing under Hindu Folk/Contemporary. It's a very happy CD and I
play it a lot.
